On May 10, 2025, a signing ceremony was held in Shanghai for a collaborative exchange agreement between the Department of Thoracic Surgery at ZhongShan Hospital Fudan University, and the University of Malaya Medical Centre. Professor Lijie Tan, Chair of Thoracic Surgery at ZhongShan Hospital Fudan University, and Professor Sivakumar Krishnasamy of the University of Malaya jointly signed the agreement, marking a new chapter in China–Malaysia cooperation in thoracic surgery.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Yaxing Shen of ZhongShan Hospital Fudan University, with representatives from both institutions, along with dozens of thoracic surgery experts and nursing professionals, in attendance.

Professor Shaojin Zhu of Yijishan Hospital shared China’s experience with combined mediastinoscopy and laparoscopic radical esophagectomy for esophageal cancer, offering new perspectives to peers from Southeast Asia;

Dr. Ming Li of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at ZhongShan Hospital Fudan University, discussed “early lung cancer presenting as ground-glass nodules” and demonstrated the application of AI-based recognition technology in thoracic surgery.

In the nursing session, Director of Nursing Yufeng Ou, Deputy Chief Nurse of Surgery at ZhongShan Hospital Fudan University, presented on “Rapid Postoperative Rehabilitation Nursing for Lung Cancer,” systematically outlining the collaborative innovation of an integrated medical–nursing model. She described how the nursing team worked in concert with surgeons and anesthesiologists to minimize postoperative stress responses and complications, thereby accelerating and enhancing patient recovery.

Malaysian nursing expert Gin Peng Ng then shared the “Advanced Nursing Skills Training System,” emphasizing the importance of professional nursing techniques seamlessly integrated with the broader medical team. Building upon the cooperation agreement and driven by medical technology innovation, the conference laid the foundation for deeper trust and mutual success—injecting new momentum into global health collaboration.
